It is not until you return home that the impact of your week at ISL really hits.
It is not at the course, nor in the run-up to the course, but in the days that follow, that the full realisation of what you have gained during that week becomes apparent. The greatest and most interesting of human studies is a study of yourself; how you behave; how you act and react, and by understanding yourself you then seek to better understand others.
When your own family notice the change in you, when you see personal traits your staff that you had not seen before and when the way that you manage yourself and your team can be fundamentally changed in just 6 days, you then realise the value of the Strategic Leadership Programme at Millbrook.

ISL was strategic leadership in action - from the subtelty of structure, to the imperative of meeting deadlines to deliver an outcome. Living, working, reflecting and learning (individually and collectively) - connected by symbols, stories, signals, questions and mirrors. A powerful experience, and highly recommended, particularly for the cynical who think they have seen and done it all before.

"The Strategic Leadership Programme is like an elite athlete. In much the same way that Roger Federer whips backhand winners down the line at 150kms per hour or Jonah Lomu dodged weaved and at times simply cast his oppressors aside on the way to the try line, the SLP makes things look deceptively easy on its way to unlocking many personal growth constraints for participants.
Whilst many will find their way to the ISL in search of better leadership skills and hoping it will assist them in their careers, and it will, many others will leave realising what a narrow goal in fact that was. If you are truly open to change, then the SLP will not just make you a better leader, it will make you a better father or mother, son or daughter, husband, wife or friend. It isn’t just about being the best you can be at work – it is about being the best you can be at life. Be the best you can be at life and being the best you can be at work will fall into place.
The insights you will gain about your own needs and wants, strengths and weaknesses, whilst similarly gaining an understanding and appreciation of others and the way you interact with them will improve every relationship you have in your life, whether they be work related or not. How good is that?"

"Such is the way that the Strategic Leadership Program is conducted that it allows committed time to review both your leadership style and lifestyle and to obtain valuable third party assessment of the type of person and leader you are. While focussing on various aspects of the leader and the make up of numerous businesses, the program also provides valuable time to reflect on the influence you have at both work and home.
The program is crafted in such a way that it carefully sets the rules of engagement amongst your program peers, sets a series of challenging and practicable themes while allowing the freedom to say it ‘as it is’, thus providing very healthy feedback on the important things in life which go well beyond your role in the work place.
A thoroughly recommended program for both current and prospective leaders."

"I had a difficult choice to make before the program, with not knowing how much I might achieve by attending this Programme, and my commitments to the Fundamental Rights Committee of the Constituent Assembly which has been working on a draft concept for the new Constitution of Nepal, and being away for 10 days. But now I can say that I made the right decision to take this Programme. The SLP was designed in such a way that it teaches you so much without being lectured! It has been about 10 years since I started a gay rights movement and made many good achievements but I never had the chance to reflect, reaffirm my vision and think about where to lead next. SLP helped and I am now clear where I want to lead next. I had enough time to reflect on my past and reaffirm my vision. I now know which direction I should move and how.
The outdoor adventures were great for learning how to work better as a team. The pleasant surprises as part of the course made every day exiting. Working with a team that come from so diverse backgrounds and cultures was a whole different experience that enriched my attitude, widened my ability to understand others and enriched my values which are: constantly improving my human quality, mastering compassion, mastering wisdom and expanding culture to care for each other, to care about the world and to care about the environment.
In total, after attending this training I feel I have become a more skilled leader - I found effective ways to connect with others. "
